When relocating to a new town or city with which you are not familiar it is possible that you will contact a local realtor or real estate office and ask for assistance. You may be assigned to an agent who is available (on deck) at that particular moment. You will not have much chance to evaluate the credibility or suitability of that agent to best serve your needs. In fact you just could be the first real estate client experience in their new career! This is what is referred to as playing Real Estate Roulette.

Avoid the risk

More appropriate and less risky strategy is to be connected to a competent and reputable agent before you arrive in town, a real estate agent who is aware of your needs and already at work in preparation for your arrival.

Perhaps the agent who sold your present home will offer to “refer” you to an agent in your new location. They will be rewarded if it becomes a successful referral. You need to satisfy yourself that this referral is not based on random selection and the selected agent is known personally and has been researched for their suitability and ability to serve you competently in your re-location and not just a name they found off of their company list.

Always ask for an agent who specializes in relocation services, and has a reputation as a relocation specialist.
